All of our geese are brought in as day old goslings and reared under Gas Brooders until about 3 weeks of age when they are allowed out to free-range initially with night time shelter, and after a further 2 weeks they take shelter at their own choice.

At all times they are kept safe from predators with the help of perimeter electric fencing. They are fed on an additive free diet from a local supplier and home grown wheat. During December when the birds have matured, all preparation is carried out on farm, in purpose built buildings supervised by DEFRA vets and local Environmental Health Officers.

Alongside the Geese, there is a strong demand for Goose Fat which although a by product, many celebrity chefs using it on their television shows has made it popular and for its relative low proportion of saturated fatty acids compared to other animal fats such as dripping or lard.

Alec Day Butcher and Fishmonger is a traditional butcher shop situated in the market town of Bourne, north of Peterborough.

Alec started as a butchers boy at the age of 13, and became a full-time apprentice at 16. In 1993, Alec was able to purchase the business and expand to supply hotels, pubic houses, schools, nurseries and nursing homes.

The business prides itself with high standards and good customer care.
