RICHARD HAWARDS OYSTERS

Richard Hawards Oysters The Haward family have been growing oysters in the shallow creeks to the west of Mersea Island since at least 1792, when William Haward sailed with his oysters to Billingsgate Market; for at least 100 years, they have nurtured the same fleet of Salcott Fleet. As seventh generation oysterman, from a black shed – formerly used for packing oysters – Richard Haward Oysters has evolved over the last 20 years to now, as both a fish shop to enjoy a large range of shellfish and smoked fish to eat there. Oysters are cleaned and prepared at the back of ‘The Shed’ both for sale and distribution throughout the UK and Europe.
